Celebrating International Women’s Day Posted On 08 March 2021

Today is International Women’s day, and what better way to celebrate than to look closer at some of the most influential women this year

Every year, on the 8th of March, we celebrate International Women’s Day. It is a day to celebrate the achievements of women, not just over the past year, but throughout our entire history.

Elizabeth Nyamayaro

Nyamayaro is a United Nations Senior advisor on gender equality, author and an award-winning humanitarian. She is also the head of #HeforShe, a movement founded by UN women to empower all humans, especially men and boys, to have a voice and take action to achieve gender equality in their own lifetime. Next month she will release her new book, ‘I Am a Girl from Africa’ and today she will take over @margotrobbie Margot Robbie’s Instagram account.

Sarah Gilbert

Gilbert is a British vaccinologist who is the Professor of Vaccinology at the University of Oxford. She led the development of the universal flu vaccine in 2011 and the moment Chinese scientists published genetic details of COVID-19, Sarah and her team in Oxford got to work. On the 30th December 2020, she co-developed the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine. Because of her vaccine research, Gilbert featured on The Times ‘Science Power List’ in May 2020.

Sanna Marin

Marin is the Prime Minister of Finland, a position she has held since December 2019. She is the youngest female state leader and Finland’s youngest-ever prime minister. The majority of ministers in her five-party cabinet are women, and she is a powerhouse for gender equality. Led by @MarinSanna, Finland has been hailed for its handling of COVID-19, with one of the lowest infection rates in Europe. This year she featured on the BBC’s Top 100 women of 2020.

#Internationalwomensday2021 is an important day for us all to celebrate the powerful, wonderful women throughout the world including all the heroes in the NHS, Armed forces, teachers, carers, and just as importantly, all the women who have taken charge of home-schooling during these difficult times.
